On 22 October 2026, the ITTF announced that its World Para Championships will move from a four-year to a two-year cycle. The federation says the change follows an Executive Board decision made on 25 August and is intended to give athletes more opportunities to compete at world level. Bidding is now open for the 2029 edition.
The LTTSF perspective
For LTTSF, this is a reminder that sports software should describe competition structures rather than hard-code them. A championship cycle, qualification window or season boundary can change. A useful open-source system should let an organiser update those rules without commissioning a new application.
What this could mean for your club
We would start with reusable event templates, explicit qualification dates and player histories that survive a change of season. Accessibility belongs in that same foundation: keyboard-friendly entry forms, readable schedules and clear status messages help the people running the event as well as those playing. These are our proposed design priorities, not features announced by the ITTF.
